LETTER: Our people are strong and proud

In response to Steven Hill’s column “A lesson in compassion,” Oct. 13. What a touching article to read.

What a touching article to read. The thing to tell your son is to see how strong and proud the people are now, practicing the culture, learning the language, honouring the earth and nature. Excelling in education, sports and culture. Yes, it is important for children to learn the horrific lives our people endured. We always say our ancestors made it through that keyhole. They flourished and made sacrifices so we can have what they didn’t. Today we live in honour of those ancestors, songs, dances, canoe gatherings, ceremonies and sharing with loving, caring people.
