It is time for our local Squamish-based radio station to tune into playing better music and cater to a bigger demographic audience that comes through our area. The music format that they are currently playing is aimed at the younger demographic audience within the Sea to Sky Corridor. This must change. We have people from all over the world who come here to play and work and who would rather hear a wider range of music other than they are currently playing.
The Squamish-based radio station is like a general store in a small town that has limited resources. A general store in a small town will supply a wide range of items that people require in that town. They will not cater to just a few people’s needs but the needs of everybody in that town or are open to bringing items that people in a small town want. General stores are open-minded. Our Squamish-based radio station needs to realize this.
I have tried to suggest this to our radio station for quite some time, that they need to change, but all my suggestions and reasoning have all been shot down because they say surveys indicate they should be playing what they are currently playing. Well, Mr. Music Director, you are wrong and you need to be more open-minded about what you play.
Mr. Music Director, why do you think that that other new radio station in Whistler is doing so well? Why do you think it was voted best new business in Whistler last year? Is it maybe because it is open-minded and listens to what people want to hear? I will leave it up to you to answer after thinking about that question.
On a positive note, Mr. Music Director, the person who does the news every day is awesome, and the weather and road reports are awesome too. You just need to change your music format.
Mr. Music Director, the time has come for you to either tune into the needs and wishes of a wider audience or tune out altogether.
