Re: Guest column “Lack of attention toward mental health issues in youth” (Published March 29)

I strongly feel that it should be addressed towards all people who deal with mental health issues. I for one have dealt with them since I was very young and I still struggle with some issues today.

I used to be forced to talk to psychiatrists and workers all the time and got nothing out of it because it was forced. Half the issues didn’t even apply to me. I was just trying to sort myself out. But now today, a quarter of a century old a single mother and I am finally ready to speak to someone about my struggles so I can be a better me for my child.

And it’s nothing but a huge waiting game and a pass around. It’s no wonder why you see a lot of people slipping through the cracks of society. Homeless people talking to themselves in an alley screaming to no one, suicide rates go up, and more people lashing out at others because they are too bottled up! I feel that there should be easier access for anyone who needs an ear who has sworn a confidentiality oath.

It’s not easy to talk to friends or family about most things. Don’t get me wrong I do speak to someone if it’s really needed and I’ve got a great support system here in town. I just wish we had access to more frequent visits with the same psychiatrist.
