Thank you to everyone who read my letter (Aug. 11, 2016), and a special thanks to those who took the time to respond.
I felt heartened to hear from people who thought B.C. logging is well-managed, and that tourism and logging could and did coexist well together.
I can see how loggers would like to live close to their families.
I would like to share that during our three vacations in Squamish, our family’s tourist dollars have supported a variety of people, including a helicopter pilot, several local artists, shops and resale shops, many restaurants, climbing and mountain guides, rafting guides, a photographer, a professional kayaker, yoga instructors, several local florists, food trucks, and Mountain FM Radio’s “Christmas in July” charity fundraiser.
Squamish faces many difficult environment decisions now and in the future; the LNG plant comes to mind.
I feel that tourism can do much to protect the beautiful place you call home as well as support other good jobs in Squamish.
