Letter: Road to Britannia Beach surf park?

The Squamish overused amenities were mentioned in this article, but the highway was not.

I read with interest the story on Page 4 of the Aug. 10 Squamish Chief newspaper regarding the Britannia Beach surf park and housing development.

Although many grandiose ideas were explained and heralded in this proposal, including a surf park, pump track, and skate park, not to mention more townhouses and condo units, there was not one mention of future plans for a highway or other transportation to access these proposed amenities.

I have lived in Squamish for a very long time.

I feel I am being held hostage during the week because I can no longer enjoy a quick trip to the city on the weekends, whether it be shopping or another activity due to highway congestion, and the very strong possibility of being stuck on the highway for a number of hours due to the daily weekend accidents and volume. Before we start planning for more construction, can we not also include another/better access to our communities?

The Squamish overused amenities were mentioned in this article, but the highway was not.

The highway needs to be upgraded to handle the amount of traffic it gets now; how is it going to handle more traffic to actually access all these projects slated for Britannia Beach? I am hoping someone will actually address this issue, I don’t think I am alone with my concerns, and I was surprised that no one on Squamish council or the representative of the SLRD mentioned it in this article.
