Letter: Roadshow not about 'science'

Though Science World has embraced the Christy Clark LNG roadshow, it’s not about “science.” It’s about money and politics – and complete disregard for B.C’s environmental integrity.

Though Science World has embraced the Christy Clark LNG roadshow, it’s not about “science.” It’s about money and politics – and complete disregard for B.C’s environmental integrity. And the idea of busing in school children from all over the province to these events to learn about “science” is ludicrous.

I went to the roadshow here in Squamish and the centre was filled with young children, and also with B.C. college information booths, all talking about the great “jobs” that will be available all over the province due to LNG. That’s also ludicrous! LNG will quickly become a dying industry, but first it will destroy much of our pristine northern environment and water supplies, as it has all over the U.S.

And B.C. could be spending all this money on developing clean energy of various sorts, as so many countries, states, cities in various parts of the world are doing. So sad!

Unfortunate that Premier Christy Clark was so loathe to spend money on children’s education in schools, but now wants to spend big money on educating children about LNG, a source of fuel that is highly destructive to the environment.

Another bizarre aspect of the event today: two RCMP cars were at the entrance the entire time with a couple of officers in the cars and a couple more standing beside the cars. And the whole time they had their engines running – as if they would have to give chase to evil dissenters at any moment. (There were about six people holding up “No LNG” signs.) Shades of the U.S.! And B.C. is supposed to be an idle-free zone.
