I have lived in Squamish since 1975 and have seen a lot of changes. Squamish is a nice place to live and we have seen a large growth spurt since the Olympics in 2010.
Do I have concerns? Yes I do.
When I moved here there was a stop sign at the corner of Cleveland and Highway 99, and there were only two phone prefixes. The road system and parking downtown has not changed since they added the McDonalds on the corner and put in the stoplights!
How on earth can this community continue to add more people without adding more/better traffic solutions? It’s terrible and it is going to be come worse shortly.
Just recently there was a letter in the paper from a person with a valid concern about the train blocking traffic at Cleveland Avenue… this is the same complaint that was discussed 20, no maybe, 30 years ago!
I don’t see how we can add so much more housing without the infrastructure to go with it. This community was planned with a population of what was then around 10 to 12,000 people.
I do believe in the next few years it will at least double that amount, yet the highway and road system in Squamish has never changed. All they have done is add more traffic lights on the highway.
Is this a solution?
