Letter: Visit Squamish now, before LNG

Squamish, B.C., only 38 miles north of Vancouver, is one of the 52 most beautiful places in the world, the 32nd most desirable place, and a definite must-visit location for 2015, as per the New York Times.

Come and visit quickly, there is a potential that in a few years you might be in a desolate and destroyed area after the now-proposed LNG facility is operational and with the over 70 Hiroshima atomic bombs of destruction capability of the liquefied gas being stored 365 days and nights a year on open water, anything can happen. (The information linking the energy equivalent in an LNG tanker to atomic bombs is on this attorney’s website: timrileylaw.com/LNG_TANKERS.htm.)

The experts are predicting, in case of a spill, an initially heavy gas plume will tend to be channeled along surrounding low areas, potentially decreasing the spread of the plume and increasing the plume concentration. Dependent upon the wind direction, the explosive plume could either be directed towards populated regions or out over the water. If the predominant wind direction at a site is toward more populated regions and will initially be confined by surrounding terrain, more severe conditions might exist.
