Letter: We are paying for yet another community plan

I was watching Shaw the other night and watched an interview with the mayor. We are paying for another Official Community Plan (OCP). The first one was done for the purpose of receiving funds for the diking system.

I was watching Shaw the other night and watched an interview with the mayor. We are paying for another Official Community Plan (OCP). The first one was done for the purpose of receiving funds for the diking system. We have had numerous plans paid for since. Why – has downtown moved, has the industrial park moved? No.

The money spent for redoing the OCP could easily go elsewhere. Every time we have a new OCP done, a part is chipped away to suit a special interest that is part of the input for an altered plan. The OCP is changed a bit to accommodate the special interest.

Where is all this going? A councillor I asked said we are only following the OCP, as if it was some divine document.

One of our previous mayors had the plan changed so the Squamish Adventure Centre would fit the OCP. How did that turn out?

The outcome of all this is the taxpayers lose the very community that drew them here, and speculators and developers will move to some area unspoiled by them. Our hospital has 21 beds. Think about that.
