I support the Woodfibre LNG project because it:
• provides a vehicle for comprehensive site cleanup of the old pulp mill site, benefitting the terrestrial and marine environments of Howe Sound.
• provides short and long term well-paying jobs for locals, enormous spin offs for local communities and suppliers, additional tax revenues, etc.
• enables Canada to significantly influence global greenhouse gas emissions by providing an alternative to coal for energy needs in the Asia Pacific.
• has the conditional support of the Squamish Nation and provides a mechanism to modify plans in response to First Nations (and others’) concerns.
• has demonstrated that it will exceed the strict regulatory frameworks for safety both on the water and on the land.
• is a natural location for deepwater shipping, a gas line already runs by it, and is isolated from Squamish by about seven kilometres.
• fits with already existing shipping lanes and controls.
• is in the best interest of Canada’s national energy and export strategies.
• provides for environmentally sensitive infrastructure development in Howe Sound.
• will be required to conform to a comprehensive system of regulatory conditions, approvals, permit conditions, acts, reviews and monitoring.
