For the first time in my life since I turned voting age, I feel like throwing my hands in the air and saying, never mind. So much propaganda, it’s just getting stupid to the point that I have almost totally tuned it out… and I’m sure I am not alone.
Readers, please, for the love of Pete, stop this idiocy. Each party leader has done bad things, each has done good things. Each party has it perks and each has it downfalls. But many of you are so obsessed with getting rid of Harper or belittling Mulcair or May or ridiculing Trudeau, you have missed an obvious point. You are voting for a local person to be your representative of those parties.
Harper, Mulcair and Trudeau probably can’t point Squamish out on a map of B.C. Do you honestly think they are sitting there wondering what Squamish is going to vote?
You are voting for:
• Pam Goldsmith-Jones, Liberal Party
• Larry Koopman, New Democratic Party
• John Weston, Conservative Party
• Ken Melamed, Green Party.
Get your focus off the big party leaders and focus on those four people. They are the ones we will be depending on as a line of communication to Ottawa. These people are the ones who will come to our community and talk to us. These are the people who live in the area and know what goes on. These are the people who will go to bat for us if something happens and we need federal help.
Your votes for one of these people are what give the party its power. You are not voting for the leader directly. Ask these candidates questions and give them your constructive comments.
Please, for the sake of my sanity, get to know these people. All this negativity is scaring people away and setting a bad example for those who might be voting for the first time or as a new citizen.
