Letters: Where is the democracy in Delta?

It was a forgone conclusion before anyone submitted feedback or spoke at the public hearing

Editor:

Days after attending and speaking at the public hearing on the Official Community Plan (OCP), I’m still in disbelief on the absolute debacle of Delta council on the entire matter.

Despite overwhelming opposition to the OCP including more than 480 written

submissions and 50 speakers, and only a mere six in support of it; council once again dismissed its residents from having a voice in our city’s future.

Our elected officials didn’t even give us the appearance of considering resident feedback by deferring the vote until the next council meeting. Instead, those elected to represent the people of Delta chose to give a 10-minute pre-written speech right after the last speaker to justify voting in favour of the OCP. Therefore, it was a forgone conclusion before anyone submitted feedback or spoke at the public hearing. What a waste of resident’s time.

When several mayors have recently spoke out against the housing target order and are standing up for their communities and constituents; why is Delta council so rogue?
