LETTER: Squamish’s beauty disappearing

I cannot believe they are cutting this big and beautiful tree located on Third Avenue across from the Helping Hands Shelter. I do not think there was a need to cut the tree for the development project as the tree was in the corner of the land.

I cannot believe they are cutting this big and beautiful tree located on Third Avenue across from the Helping Hands Shelter. I do not think there was a need to cut the tree for the development project as the tree was in the corner of the land.

But most important, the tree was home to at least one hundred birds. They played and sang such beautiful songs in that tree.

Now It’s gone.

This little green downtown that I have lived in for many years is slowly turning in to a concrete jungle. So sad. From morning till evening there is constant construction noise.

I lived in a small mountain village in Asia. The village was green and wildlife and vegetation were plentiful. People from all over the world visited the village for its natural beauty, rich culture and friendly people. The village economy was flourishing with tourism.

One day the younger people of the village decided to build a big highway through the village hoping it will bring more wealth and opportunities to the community.

They built the highway.

Within the next few years, the rivers and creeks became dirty, wild life population declined, air was polluted and consequently tourist population declined and all the youth left the village to find employment in the cities.

Squamish’s core strengths are her natural beauty and the people. Many good Squamish people have left the town due to unaffordable housing and now with unabated construction, Squamish may not be a tourist attraction any more.
