I live in Squamish. I feel relieved and extremely grateful to have easy access to nature during the coronavirus pandemic.

Yesterday I went on my weekly hike up the Chief with my dog. I noticed a big surge in the number of people who decided to do the same.

I was very surprised and concerned by how many hikers I encountered on the trail who were not practicing social distancing. I saw groups of four or five friends in close proximity to each other. From what I observed in the parking lot, many hikers had carpooled together from all parts of the city.

During these stressful times it is important to stay physically and mentally healthy, but we all still need to be mindful that the virus doesn’t care where we live or play.
