I read with interest in The Squamish Chief [“To calm traffic in the Garibaldi Highlands, developer Bob Cheema proposes access road” June 11] that there is consideration for an access road to the proposed mining operation on the ‘Cheema lands’ which might relieve traffic up Perth Drive.

As you may guess, I am all for this. I would have preferred that council might have seen fit to allow the owners of this land to develop it now as a housing sub-division rather than a mine.

I do not doubt that in the future when the mining is finished, that this will, indeed, happen. Apparently, the internal road plans are already on the books and are well suited to a housing venture.

The fact, as reported, that the owners have offered financial assistance for a proposed access road might well encourage support for this by council. I hope this is the case. Many of us have long-wished relief from traffic up Highlands Way South, The Boulevard and Perth Drive.

I remain in enthusiastic support of this suggestion.
