LETTER: The Spirit of Squamish

The Sea to Sky Gondola is deeply loved by Squamish and we were all devastated to hear of the closure. When the gondola first opened, we knew it would be an amazing boost to tourism, offering everyone access to the top of the world. Many of us - myself included - didn’t realize how important the Sea to Sky Gondola would become as a community hub. Young families enjoy Halloween, Sunday Socials, Santa visits, tubing and more. Adventure lovers hike, climb and tour all year round. We all enjoy the best views in B.C., washed down with sunset beers and lively music. The Sea to Sky Gondola has created a gathering space where we can enjoy the outdoors and connect with our family and friends. We cannot wait to get back on the Sea to Sky Gondola, and the Squamish Chamber is here to help in any way we can.

The entire team at the Sea to Sky Gondola is outstanding and their commitment to ‘people first’ over the last week has been remarkable. As a great community partner –  supporting jobs, as well as local groups – the response from the Squamish community is a strong reflection of the connection between Squamish and the Sea to Sky Gondola. Thank you to everyone who has stepped up with alternative venues for weddings, jobs for displaced employees, accommodation offers and community spirit by sharing your #seatoskygondolalove. The community response has made our hearts glow with pride. This is the #spiritofsquamish and why we call this wonderful place home.

In the next few weeks, the Squamish Chamber will be working with the Sea to Sky Gondola, businesses and community partners to better understand the impact and what we can do to help. If you want to be involved, please don’t hesitate in reaching out
to us.
