This evening (Thursday, July 10), the full-length documentary The Chocolate Farmer will be shown at the Squamish Public Library at 6:30 p.m. This film by the National Film Board of Canada focuses on cacao farmer and father Eladio Pop and his struggle to preserve his family’s tradition in a changing world.
I, like many others in our community, have known Dr. Roy Shephard for many years and it was a great thrill to learn this talented and gifted citizen has been appointed to the Order of Canada. Congratulations Roy. I know your wife Muriel and daughters are also thrilled with this special acknowledgement.

The Squamish Environmental Society will meet at the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub on Sunday (July 13) at 7 a.m. for the monthly bird count. Tickets should be purchased by tomorrow for the annual Squamish Seniors’ Society summer barbecue to be held on Saturday (July 12) from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and include hamburgers, salads and desserts.
