Little letter of thanks for Little Shop of Horrors

Letters

Editor,

I am writing to thank all of the people involved with the recent production of Little Shop of Horrors. This was a major effort for everyone involved and it was wonderful that it was so well received by the Sea to Sky community.

Thanks to the phenomenal cast of this show. Countless volunteer hours went into the harmonies, choreography and scene work. The result was a clean, polished show that would've looked good on any professional stage.

Thanks to our tireless crew who put in huge amounts of hours behind the scenes and long nights when it came to crunch time, we could not have had such a well-flowing, fast-paced show without your hard work and attention to detail.

Thanks to the production crew, musical directors, dance captain, co-director and stage management. The long meetings and mass e-mails paid off tenfold.

Thanks also to our front of house crew and our "stage moms" who put in a huge amount of work and were always there for additional support. Thank you to our audiences who came to support the show - many of whom came more than once. Apologies to those of you we had to turn away on the final night of the show due to a sold-out house.

Finally, thanks to Mike Hewitt, our loyal producer, who stuck by my vision despite perhaps not really knowing what it was that I wanted to do. You are an inspiration to young theatre types having put on one of the most successful, best looking shows I have ever had the opportunity to be a part of. Here's hoping we can do it again soon!

Youth triathlon successful

Editor,

The fifth annual Squamish Youth Triathlon on May 15 was by all accounts a huge success, due in large part to the combined efforts of great Squamish volunteers. The core organizing group was made up of Marcia Collier, Charlene Pawluk, Peggy Lemaire and myself. Unfortunately, Char and Peggy's names were left out of the article in the paper last week, but the event would not have happened without their hard work and dedication.

Also, kudos to Richard MacKellar who created the program which produces the final results. With seven swim heats starting six to eight minutes apart, and with multiple "waves" of swimmers five seconds apart in each heat and spread across three lanes of the pool, it is a very difficult job to keep track of everyone's actual start time and finish place! Thanks to Richard, we had solid overall results mere minutes after the last participant crossed the finish line.

We are very grateful to all of the people who supported the triathlon through assistance with the organizing, donations for draw prizes and goody bags, and volunteering their time before and/or on the day of the event. Special thanks to the early morning set-up crew (Ray, Mike, Ric, Hal, and Xavier) who were the first to don their rain gear, and again to Mike and Ric who went out of their way to ensure the safety and happiness of the participants on the bike course. For all the competitors over age seven who were disappointed not to see their names in the paper last week, you should see complete results in today's paper! You can also see full results and some pictures online at www.squamishmountainbike.com/SqYouthTri.

If you have any comments, suggestions or pictures from this year's event, or if you would like to volunteer to help with the sixth annual Squamish Youth Triathlon in 2006, please email us at [email protected].

GSL football gives thanks

Editor,

I would like to thank everyone that helped out with GSL football registration. Special thanks to Brennan Park and the staff, Sea to Sky Hotel, McDonald's, The Chief, and all the local merchants that allowed me to put up posters. Your support is greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank the parents and players, 2005 is going to be a great year for football. Registration went very well this year and we are well ahead of last year's pace.

I would like to encourage all players that have not yet registered to do so ASAP. A few of the teams are close to full. GSL football has never turned players away (for financial or other reasons) and would prefer to increase the number of teams. Decisions on the number of teams will be made at the beginning of June based on players registered, those that wait too long may miss out.

Anyone that may have some used football equipment, (pants, boots etc) that would like to donate or sell, please contact me at 604-898-9785.
