LNG action urged

LNG plant will change Howe Sound forever, says writer

EDITOR,
In 1993, British Columbia made global news because a group of concerned citizens took a stand against clear-cutting Clayoquot Sound, a pristine and beautiful rainforest off the coast of Vancouver Island.
At the time, this was one of the largest acts of civil disobedience in Canadian history and resulted in legislative changes that would help prevent mass logging in our province.
Today, thanks to the dedication and passion of many individuals, Clayoquot Sound is now protected by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve — a place where humans can live in harmony with nature while still encouraging economic development.
The LNG plant that is proposed in Squamish will forever change the landscape and the design of our community and Howe Sound. If you moved to Squamish or the Howe Sound region because you were sold on the promise that this was a community moving away from industry and towards tourism and recreation, then the time to act is now.
If you care about our environment and the impacts of industry close to residential communities, then the time to act is now.
If you do not want to see LNG come to Squamish, then the time to at is now.
We live in a world where social media allows individuals to come together faster and en masse to form a collective voice, a voice that can bring about prolific changes to communities — changes that can shape the destiny of a place for generations to come.
Act now: Email the District of Squamish at [email protected] and say no to LNG. Post “No LNG in Squamish” to your Facebook page. Like the Protect Howe Sound on Facebook and post www.protecthowesound.ca to your Facebook page. Talk about LNG with your friends and family.
Spread the word and encourage everyone to take a stand.
