Loggers Sports seek vollies

A popular event each year is the annual Copper and Fire Arts event at the Britannia Mine Museum when talented artists display their works and demonstrate their crafts using metals unearthed from underground.

A popular event each year is the annual Copper and Fire Arts event at the Britannia Mine Museum when talented artists display their works and demonstrate their crafts using metals unearthed from underground. The event on Sunday (July 21) runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the museum is open until 6:30 p.m. The day is family friendly with underground tours, activities, face-painting for the children and more. Admission is $21.50 for adults, $17.20 for seniors, $13.50 for youth and free for those five years and under, and members of the museum.

The monthly luncheon at the seniors centre will be held on Thursday (July 25) at 11:45 a.m. and will include chicken, salads, hot biscuits, dessert and coffee/tea for $9 for members and $10 for non-members. Nancy Warwick from the Squamish Public Library will have a display of books on hand and remember to have your library card with you. Please purchase tickets by Wednesday (July 24). The Genealogy Club meets at 1 p.m. on Monday (July 22). Co-ed Biking is each Wednesday starting from the centre at 10 a.m.

Mark your calendar for Sunday (July 28) when a Family Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 from 8 to 11 a.m. The regular breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, ham, sausage and coffee/juice for $5 and the hungry man portion for $7.

The first annual Adult Summer Book Club started earlier this month at the Squamish Public Library and the group is reading February by Lisa Moore. Stop by the front desk to pick up a copy, and the book discussion will take place on Thursday (Aug. 22).

The annual Squamish Days Logger Sports Festival will be held from Thursday, August 1 to 5 and this year, TSN will be at the loggers sports grounds on Sunday (Aug. 4) to film the day's activities. Volunteers are needed for ticket ales, security and parking, and if you are interested in helping out, please call Harold at (604) 898-4540.

The Whistler bus trip for seniors takes place on Sunday (July 28) and leaves the seniors centre at 9 a.m. and returns at 3 p.m. Tickets are $8 each (lunch not included) and are available at the centre or call (604) 848-6898 for more information. The excursion includes a visit to the Whistler Farmers' Market and to Brandywine Falls. There is some walking on uneven, but flat terrain at the falls, but it is not walker or wheelchair accessible. You will have your own personal tour guide and bus driver.

A new display at the Squamish Adventure Centre features the talents of three local artists. They include beautiful jewelry created by Sharon Knox, paintings by Sanz Busink and a display of photography by Dave Humphreys.

The Summer Reading Club at the Squamish Public Library has some exciting programs coming up next week. On Tuesday (July 23) from 1 to 2 p.m. there is a superhero themed program for six to eight-year-olds. On Wednesday (July 24) there is a Wii Tournament for nine to 12 year olds from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. On Thursday (July 25) guest illustrator Eliska Liska from Victoria will be at the library from noon to 1 p.m. Registration for the programs opens at 10 a.m. on Friday (July 19).
