Kayla Matzen will perform classic to contemporary opera favourites at the Squamish Academy of Music (SAM) on Second Avenue on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 3:30 p.m. as part of SAM's Coffee Concerts series. She will be accompanied by Erik Musseau. Admission is by donation with all proceeds going to the Access Music Education. The concert was originally scheduled for Jan. 4 but illness prevented Matzen from performing.
The Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital thanks the community for all their support this past year. All proceeds go towards medical equipment for the hospital. The members have the gift shop open Monday to Friday at the hospital and it is always filled with items for babies, toddlers and gifts for all ages.
The Winter Market in the CN Roundhouse and Convention Centre at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park will open its doors on Sunday (Jan. 19) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is your opportunity to enjoy local fruit and vegetables, baked goods and much more.
Those interested in genealogy are invited to join the group at the Squamish Seniors Centre at 1 p.m. on Monday (Jan. 20). Plan to attend Mike Sherlock's four classes in watercolour and acrylic at the centre on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and in the evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Spanish lessons also begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
A bingo night is planned at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 on Monday (Jan. 20) with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
An evening of worship music led by the Overcomers is planned at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Tuesday (Jan. 21) at 7:30 p.m. and admission is by donation. Mark your calendar for Saturday (Jan. 25) when the popular Valdy and the Valdy Eagle Band will perform at the BAG as part of the Brackendale Eagle Festival.
Green Drinks is collaborating with Coun. Bryan Raiser's "Local Social Group" to present a chance to meet new friends and like-minded people. The first such event is planned next Thursday (Jan. 23) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spice Root Restaurant and Bar, 40022 Government Rd. All are welcome.
The monthly luncheon at the Squamish Seniors Centre on Thursday, Jan. 30, will have a Robbie Burns theme with bangers and mash and trifle for dessert. Please purchase tickets by Jan. 29 at $9 for members and $10 for non-members.
The Squamish Gardeners meet at the Sandman Inn at 6:45 p.m. on Monday (Jan. 20). There will be a member's forum with an opportunity to benefit from the expertise of the club's two member master gardeners, Carol Anderson and Carol Robson. Non-members are welcome to attend ($5 drop-in fee.)
