Meet at the Seniors Centre for a walk down Second Avenue, up Cleveland Avenue and then back to the centre to the Clock Tower Café. This event is sponsored by the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, Squamish Spirit in Action and the District of Squamish.

St. John's Anglican Church is sponsoring its annual Spring Fling Saturday (May 7) from 9:30 a.m. to noon. It includes a plant sale of perennials and seedlings, DeVry-hanging baskets and plants, a book and bake table, and sale of fabrics. Refreshments will be available. The location is 1930 Diamond Rd. (behind London Drugs).

The Cedar Valley Waldorf School is having its May Fair and Soup-Off tomorrow (May 7) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 38265 Westway Ave. This event includes Maypole dancing, children's activities, plants, artisan market, arts and crafts and more.

It is Mother's Day on Sunday (May 8) and a traditional Afternoon Tea is planned at noon at the Britannia Mine Museum. The Tea includes homemade scones and jam and specially blended teas and coffees and the cost is $6 per person. The regular admission fee to the museum including taxes is $21.50 for adults, $16 for ages 12 to 17 years, child and seniors $13.50 and children under five years are admitted free.

The Squamish Environmental Society has its monthly bird count on Sunday (May 8) with participants asked to meet at 7 a.m. at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Co. The group will be looking for any signs of nesting. For more information, please call Judith at (604) 892-3340.

The Squamish Public Library and Quest University Canada presents Professor Rob Knop in the Library meeting room on Thursday (May 12) at 7 p.m. when Dr. Knop's theme will be "Galaxies in Collision."

Residents who would like to have their gardens considered for the annual Squamish Garden Tour on June 26 are requested to contact Coral Arrand by May 15 at (604) 898-1823 or [email protected]. Gardeners in the Squamish and Cheakamus valleys, as well as Furry Creek and Britannia Beach, are encouraged to enter as well.

Any senior interested in going on the boat cruise from New Westminster to Steveston on May 18 is asked to phone Elaine at (604) 898-5463 within the next few days. A trip to the Starlight Casino is planned for May 25.

The Noon Hour Book Club at the Squamish Public Library will meet on Tuesday (May 10) from noon to 1 p.m. to discuss the novel The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski.

There are no cardio fit, chair fit, or sit and stand aerobics next week at the Seniors Centre, but those who are able are invited to participate in the Walkers' Parade at 10 a.m. on Monday (May 9).

The Hilltop House Support Society will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday (May 12) in the north wing. New members are welcome to attend.

McHappy Days is celebrated at McDonald's locations across Canada and our local McDonalds will celebrate the special day on Wednesday (May 11) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds from special menu items will support the Squamish Hospice Society and Ronald McDonald House. Please plan a visit to McDonald's on Wednesday!

The Brackendale Babes Relay for Life team invite you to a night of comedy on Thursday (May 12) at the Eagle Eye Theatre with the pre-show (silent auction, entertainment, etc.) at 6 p.m. and the show The Boob Tour at 7:30 p.m. This group of entertainers fights cancer through comedy. Tickets at $40 are available at Billie's Bouquet and the Brackendale Bean Around the World coffee shop.
