From left, Bryan Couture, Conny Amelunxen and Jason Reynolds were just three of the local men that supported the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event last year.

The annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is set for this Saturday (July 5), sponsored by the Howe Sound Women’s Centre. The main purpose is to raise funds to help support women and children who are affected by abuse and violence. You can’t miss the Squamish men on their walk, as they will be wearing bright red, high-heeled shoes. Residents are invited to join them and consider giving a donation to this great cause. Pre-registration starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Squamish Junction Pavilion with the walk starting at 11 a.m.

Summer Read to Me Club is for younger siblings. For more information, drop by the library, call (604) 892-3110 or check squamish.bclibrary.ca.

How exciting it is for Between Shifts Theatre to be invited to participate in Theatre B.C.’s Mainstage in Kamloops this coming week? The play “The Glass Menagerie” presented here earlier this year was well received and I hope good fortune shines on them this coming week.

It is billed as Local History Talks and on Tuesday (July 8) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. local historians Eric Andersen and Trevor Mills along with the Squamish Folk Dancers will be at the Squamish Public Library to retell the story of three loggers who inhabited the Squamish Valley from 1911 to 1916.

Summer movies continue at the Squamish Public Library and on Thursday (July 10) at 6:30 p.m. The Chocolate Farmer will be shown and this full-length documentary takes you to an unspoiled corner of southern Belize, where cacao farmer and father Eladio Pop manually works his plantation in the tradition of his Mayan ancestors: as a steward of the land. A lament for cultures lost, The Chocolate Farmer challenges our deeply held assumptions.
