All is in readiness for the annual Remembrance Day service at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre on Sunday (Nov. 11). The Legion Colour Party, Sgt-At-Arms Ryan Pedersen and the Black Tusk Caledonia Pipe Band will lead the parade into the auditorium for the 11 a.m. start of the service. Members of the RCMP, Air and Sea Cadets, Scout and Guide groups, and firefighter, ambulance, coast guard and Conservation Officer Service personnel will also participate.
Taking part in the ceremony will be Legion President Ed Robertson, his son Warrant Officer Russell Robertson, Mayor Rob Kirkham, Rev. William Roberts, Rev. Karen Millard, the Squamish United Church Choir and pianist Linda Halvorson. Please be seated no later than 10:45 a.m. After the service, Legion members lay wreaths at the cenotaph in downtown Squamish.
The Squamish Public Library and Quest University will welcome Dr. Andre Lambelet to the library on Thursday (Nov. 15) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. when his subject will be Comic Books, Colonialism and The Congo. All are welcome.
The second event in the St. John's Anglican Church's community debates series is planned on Saturday (Nov. 10) at 7:30 p.m. at the church. The debate topic is "Be it resolved that religious leaders have caused more wars than political leaders." Arguing the pro side will be Quest University third-year student Weiyi Zhou and St. John's Priest-in-Charge William Roberts, while Graham Fuller - author of several books including A World Without Islam - and Quest political science student Ashley Pearson will argue the con side. Guest moderator will be Chris Gailus, Global B.C. TV news anchor. Admission is a $5 donation at the door.
Also, on Remembrance Day (Sunday, Nov. 11) at 3 p.m., the church is hosting "Interfaith Songs for Peace and Prayers for Veterans from Afghanistan." The service will include music from Kayla Matzen, the new music director at St. John's, and pianist Linda Halvorson, as well as prayers of remembrance. All are welcome.
November is National Novel Writing Month and the Squamish Library is taking part in the NaNoWriMo Challenge. Local and aspiring writers are invited to drop by the library on Saturday (Nov. 10) and Sunday (Nov. 18) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Margreet Dietz is a local author of four non-fiction books and she looks forward to meeting other local writers.

A Charcoal and Pastel drawing workshop will be held at the Seniors Centre with Mike Sherlaw as the facilitator.
