EDITOR,
I would like to know why the women of the slo-pitch team are referred to as "ladies," instead of women ("Diamond queens," The Chief, Sept. 12). I'm sure you wouldn't report that the gentlemen on the hockey team did quite well. They would be called men, or in the case of younger males, boys.
Mature females are women. Ladies do not play ball. They are quiet, always polite and keep their ankles crossed. They never say the wrong thing, smile endlessly and think of England while having sex.
These women, on the other hand, look like they can handle just about anything, so please give mature women the respect they deserve, and call them by the proper term.
On another subject: I was surprised to see that Letters to the Editor are supposed to be kept to less than 400 words, as it has surprised me how long some of the letters are.
One other thing: In regard to the GranFondo, did anyone ever think to ask why they don't change their date for this ride, so it doesn't conflict with the Brackendale Fair, which has been here much longer than their race, and of course is also a much-awaited and well-attended local event? Their arrogance knows no end.
