One music festival more than enough

Letter write reflects on one of Squamish's noisiest events

I have to disagree with John French (Seeking Adventure, Aug. 14 edition). For those of us who have to work weekends, being kept up until 1 a.m. (during the Squamish Valley Music Festival) was not appreciated.

Now you want to make it two weekends in a row.

I understand the economic impact this festival has. Why does it have to be at the expense of the residents? People live in Squamish for the peace and tranquility.

What would happen if the music festival went to the West Vancouver Council and asked them to have their festival at Ambleside Park? I don’t think it would fly because, again, it’s right next to a residential area. I think the answer would be the same at any of the lower mainland councils.

So why do the Squamish residents need to put up with this noise next to their homes? Why can’t they move the festival up the valley away from residential areas?

I’m not against the economic benefits or kids having fun, but really, four days next to my house?

With the next municipal election coming up I am going to pose this question to each of the potential candidates: “Are you in favour of keeping the Squamish Valley Music Festival in the middle of a residential area?”
