Parking situation unsafe, frustrating

EDITOR, I have never written before and I have often been thinking of issues that needed to be addressed. But this time I cannot control myself any longer on the parking issue at the Brackendale Post Office.

EDITOR,

I have never written before and I have often been thinking of issues that needed to be addressed. But this time I cannot control myself any longer on the parking issue at the Brackendale Post Office.

I must tell it like it is! It is about public safety along Government Road and things must change before this municipality as blood on their hands. For years we have all put up with the dangerous condition of parking outside the Brackendale Post Office. I don't believe I am the only one who complains again and again about the enormous trucks that park outside the front doors of the store and post office, blocking visibility and making it unsafe for exiting and oncoming vehicles, not to mention how many kids have almost been killed walking or biking around these trucks. On Saturday, I am sitting there waiting patiently - because I can't see a thing - for this huge truck with a snowmobile parked and sticking right out onto the roadway. I wait for him while he is putting his child in a car seat as I am not willing to back up onto to Government as cars are passing by at a pretty good speed. That's great - I wait, then he comes around and sees me but does not give a sign to go ahead and or tell me if it's safe to go. But instead, he keeps casually walking to his lovely big truck that he so adores! I am now very frustrated. I lean forward to ask him if it's safe to go.... and tells me to learn how to drive! That is so old to tell a woman to learn to drive

How can I even drive when your big luxury truck is blocking everyone's visibility and if I do pull out and get into a collision, it won't be your fault, according to ICBC! It will be my fault for backing out unsafely!

When they repaved Government Road, I was told that for public safety, it would become parallel parking. That did not make much sense, but now this might be the only safe resolution.

So it's time for Brackendale to get with the times and do like other places in the world. Let's post a sign, "No Truck Parking in Front of Store," or "Truck Parking at the Side or Back of Building."

I did not appreciate the rudeness of this man. I would love to see his driving record, not to mention that he is probably one of these guys that run you off the road tailgating because - oh, yes, God invented the highway for Ford trucks!Considering that I am a gold star driver, I have commuted the Sea to Sky since 1976, putting 35,000 kilometres per year on the Whistler-Squamish highway and I have never been involved in an accident, touch wood.

I think that some people need to learn to park these big vehicles with consideration and for the safety of others. Francine Lessard
