Poll: Squamish respondents agree with province's decision not to support 2030 Olympic bid

More than 60% of respondents agree with the province's decision not to support the Olympic 2030 bid.

On Oct. 27, Minister of Tourism, Sport and Culture Lisa Beare announced that the provincial government did not support a bid to bring the Winter Olympics back to Vancouver and Whistler.

The Squamish Chief polled 273 readers and asked the question: Do you support the provincial government's decision not to back the 2030 Olympic bid?

On Oct. 27, Minister of Tourism, Sport and Culture Lisa Beare announced that the provincial government did not support a bid to bring the Winter Olympics back to Vancouver and Whistler. A year before, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) partnered with the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish),  Lilwat7úl  (Lil’wat), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations, alongside the Resort Municipality of Whistler and the City of Vancouver, to explore the feasibility of an Indigenous-led bid to host the 2030 Games.

The readers' poll ran from 11/2/2022 to 11/12/2022. Of the 273 votes, we can determine that 120 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Results are based on an online study of adult Squamish Chief readers that are located in Squamish. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 5.89%, 19 times out of 20.
