Children's Hospital. Youngsters from Squamish who have been diagnosed with cancer benefit from this annual fundraiser. The Squamish Dragon Boat Association is involved with this special event.

The Re-Use-It Fair at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre is the location for this event co-sponsored by Squamish CAN and the District of Squamish on Saturday (May 11). Take your recycled items in good shape (no TVs) to the arena before 1 p.m. and in turn, find some goods you could use. The fun part it's all for free!

The annual Spring Fling at St. John's Anglican Church is also this Saturday (May 11) from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be some great gift ideas for Mother's Day. The Devry plant orders are ready for pick-up and there will also be a variety of plants for you to choose from along with used garden decorations. Pick up a tasty treat or two from the homemade baking table and browse through the used book section.

Hilltop House residents will celebrate birthdays this month on Wednesday (May 15) at 2 p.m. when Gail Deleplace, Cameron Tanner, Bud Zorn, Randy Ferbey and Ellen Elliasen will be honoured.

The Squamish Public Library presents the Digital Bookmobile at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre on Thursday (May 16) from 1 to 6 p.m. Discover eBooks and more from the library.

On Tuesday (May 14) a free Personal Planning workshop will be held at the Seniors Centre from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Learn about issues regarding personal care, end-of-life and financial decision making. The Squamish Food Bank will distribute grocery hampers on Wednesday (May 15) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club at Third Avenue.

A Mother's Day bird count will be held on Sunday (May 12) with participants meeting at the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub at 7 a.m. Members of the Squamish Environmental Society will be looking for signs of nesting birds. For more information, please call Judith at (604) 892-3340.

Former resident and Howe Sound Secondary School graduate Michael Forry of Kamloops is slowly recuperating after a serious altercation on March 23. Michael is in Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops and would love to hear from old school pals or friends. A "Living with Wildlife" presentation by Bear Aware and the Conservation Officer Service will be held on Thursday, May 16, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Adventure Centre. The film "Highway Wilding", a 22-minute documentary exploring vehicle-wildlife conflicts in Western Canada, will be screened. Come out and learn about the wildlife we share Squamish with and how to keep the "wild" in wildlife while staying safe. The Howe Sound Women's Centre (HSWC) is sponsoring a fundraising Mother's Day Burger and Beverage event on Saturday (May 11) at 5 p.m. at the Living Room Restaurant in the Executive Suites Garibaldi Springs Resort. Tickets are $12 and include a gourmet sirloin burger ad your choice of a glass if wine or beer. Purchase tickets at HSWC on Third Avenue, at the Onatah Coffee Shop on Tantalus Road or at the door. The evening includes a silent auction and mini massage and manicures by donation.

On Sunday (May 12) the Venerable John Stephens will be returning to St. John's Anglican Church to preach at the 10 a.m. service and this will be followed by a Mother's Day potluck luncheon. Rev. The second session of the Celebrating Our Lives: Older Adult Group will be held at the Seniors Centre on Thursday, May 16, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. There is much to offer in this group and for more information, please contact Nadine Goodgrove or Carla Fuhre at (604) 892-6400.

For this month only, the theme luncheon at the Seniors Centre will be held a week earlier on Thursday, May 23, at 11:45 a.m. A Mexican Cinco de Mayo theme is on the menu. Please purchase tickets ($9 members, $10 non-members) by May 22. Also, tickets for the barbecue on Saturday (May 25) are now on sale at $10 each.
