The Squamish Public Library and Quest University Canada lecture series continues at the library tonight (Thursday, Feb. 13) at 6:30 p.m. when the guest speaker will be Dr. I-Chant Chiang. She will speak about How Children Learn Language.
The next distribution of grocery hampers by the Squamish Food Bank (SFB) will be on Wednesday (Feb. 19) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club on Third Avenue. Donations to the SFB can be mailed to P.O. Box 207, Garibaldi Highlands, B.C. V0N 1T0. Receipts will be issued for income tax purposes.
This month only, the theme luncheon at the Squamish Seniors' Centre will occur on week earlier on Thursday (Feb. 20) at 11:45 a.m. It will be a Mardi Gras theme with corn-crusted cod and Creole sauce, jambalaya rice, creamed corn and bread pudding for dessert. Please purchase tickets by Feb. 19 at $9 for members. Nancy Warwick from the Squamish Public Library will have a selection of books on display.
At the Hotspot on Cleveland Avenue, there is also the Welcome Centre Community Bookstore, open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The price is right for picking up books at a cost of $2, children's books are $1 each and magazines are 50 cents each. The Squamish Gardeners will meet at the Sandman Inn on Monday (Feb. 17) at 6:45 p.m. The evening speaker will be Julia Common and her topic will be Hives for Humanity. She will discuss the important role bees play in food production. Non-members are welcome for a $5 drop in fee.
