Quest's Weidenbaum to speak

Guest lecturer Shira Weidenbaum will speak on The Rhetoric of Religious (In) Tolerance. World events often prove that tolerance is easier said than done, easier to prove than to practice. Weidenbaum completed her doctorate in French literature at Yale University and has been at Quest since 2009.

The Caregivers Support Group will next meet on Wednesday (March 28) from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Seniors Centre. Anyone wishing more information is asked to call Donna Howard or Nadine Goodgrove at (604) 892-6400.

A transformation is taking pace at Stan Clarke Park this spring and an open house will give the public the opportunity to learn of future plans for the park next Thursday (March 29) at 4 p.m. at the Squamish Public Library.

An information session titled "Living with Wildlife" is planned on Thursday (March 29) from 7 to 8 p.m. in council chambers at municipal hall. B.C. conservation officers Service and Squamish's Bear Aware co-ordinator will make the presentation.

The Hospice Society is offering a Bereavement Group for children ages seven to 12 on Tuesdays from March 27 to April 17. Clinical counsellors Dee Beveridge and Kenda Reimer will give caring and compassionate support to youngsters dealing with a loss in their families. Another Farmers' Market will be held on Sunday (March 25) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the CN Conference Centre at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park.

A popular event at the Seniors Centre each month is the soup and sandwich day and it will be held on Thursday (March 29) at noon. Buy your tickets in advance and be eligible for a special prize.

Are you interested in joining a co-ed cycling group? If so, please attend the meeting on Wednesday (April 4) at 10 a.m. at the Seniors Centre. Seniors interested in taking a First Aid/AED course are asked to call the centre at (604) 848-6898.

A Family Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 on Sunday (March 25) from 8 to 11 a.m. The regular breakfast is $5 and the hungry man's breakfast is $7 and includes pancakes, eggs, sausages, ham and coffee.

The Women's Auxiliary to the Squamish General Hospital has its spring raffle draw on May 5 with cash prizes of $250, $175 and $100. Members of the WA will be at Wal-Mart today and Saturday (March 23 and 24) and members will have tickets available at local grocery stores on weekends until the final draw. Tickets are also available at the gift shop at the hospital from Monday to Friday. Your support is much appreciated and recently, the Auxiliary donated three new television sets to the hospital at a cost of $2,500.

The Teen Book Club at the Squamish Public Library will meet on Wednesday (March 28) from 4 to 5 p.m. to discuss the book Shelter by Frances Greenslade. The Adult Evening Book Club will also meet on March 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. to discuss Ragged Company by Richard Wagamese.

I know many people deal with chronic pain every day but thankfully I wasn't one of them until... about three weeks ago. My pain, I'm sure, will end with a good result but for now, Tylenol 3 is my best friend! Thanks to my family and friends for their support.
