The West Coast Railway Heritage Park was opened in 1994 and on Saturday (July 19) the park will celebrate its 20th anniversary. This is the perfect time to take family and friends to ride the mini-rail, take a tour and check out the many exhibits on the grounds and in the CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre. Coffee, pop and snacks will be available in the Roundhouse. The best part is, on Saturday ticket prices will reflect what they were in 1994 with adult admission $4.50, seniors and students $3.50 and families $12. The park is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Recently, the Britannia Mine Museum celebrated its 110th anniversary and on Sunday (July 20) the annual Copper & Fire Festival of Art will take place on the grounds. Your admission includes the popular underground train tour, gold panning, children’s play area, films and much more.

The Summer Reading Club at the Squamish Public Library is in full swing and there is still time for children to enroll in this free group. Receive your reading record, find out about the free programs, and get your name entered into one of the many prize draws. Children six to eight go on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 3 p.m. and the nine- to 12-year-olds on Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. A special event on Thursday (July 17) from 2 to 3 p.m. will be a Bear Aware program for six to 12 year olds. A bus trip for seniors is planned for Monday (July 28) and is sponsored by the Squamish Seniors Centre. The cost for the 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. trip is $10 (lunch not included) and the tour includes the Pemberton Museum, a visit to the Pemberton Farmers’ Market, a stop at an artist’ gallery, lunch stop at North Arm Farm and more. Limited tickets are available and pick up and drop off will be at the centre. On Thursday (July 31) the theme luncheon at the centre will feature fish and chips.

The next film offered at the Squamish Public Library on Thursday (July 24) at 6:30 p.m. will be a feature-length documentary entitled Hitman Hart – Wrestling with the Shadows. In this film, director Paul Jay was given unprecedented access to the world of Bret Hart and pro wrestling as his camera followed Bret “The Hitman” Hart for one year.

A free concert at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Saturday (July 19) at 8 p.m. will feature punk rocker Jimmy Cummins a.k.a. I, Braineater, and the artist who created the BAG Unicorn. An evening of worship music with the Overcomers will be held on Tuesday (July 22) at 7:30 p.m. and admission is by donation.

“If you build it, they will come: Trails in Squamish.” On Tuesday (July 29) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Squamish Public Library, representatives from the Squamish Trails Society, Squamish Access Society and SORCA will share the histories of their organizations and some of the trails they have built, and maintained in the area.
