'Reclassification' unacceptable

EDITOR,

I am Canadian citizen extremely concerned with the current initiative by Sea to Sky Gondola Corp. and/or GroundEffects Development Inc. to reclassify lands or remove lands from Stawamus Chief Provincial Park to allow right-of-way for a proposed gondola aerial tramway.

Information about this proposal can be found here: http://www.seatoskygondola.com/updates/bc-parks-reclassification/.

I am a regular user of Stawamus Chief Provincial Park. The Stawamus Chief Provincial Park is a vital resource to residents of Squamish and British Columbia. It is a legacy that should be protected at all costs. It is also a wild space with a character that would be seriously disturbed and drastically altered by the installation of a gondola anywhere in the vicinity.

Alteration of the park is an outrageous concept. As British Columbians and Canadians, Stawamus Chief Provincial Park is our legacy and it is ours to protect. It should never be compromised by those who would seek only to profit from the result. There is no economic benefit to the community, to the region, to the province of British Columbia, or to the country of Canada that can be justified by alteration of parkland anywhere. Wild space is growing increasingly rare and precious. Provincial parks in British Columbia should remain protected areas always and should remain off-limits to commercial interests, always.

Residents of Squamish, please do whatever you can to help prevent reclassification of lands or removal of lands from Stawamus Chief Provincial Park.
