Thanks to an amazing community! On May 8 at about 9:40 p.m. I found myself lying in the rain on the pavement in the 1000 block Jay Crescent with what was later diagnosed as a broken femur.
Two dogs on leash outweighing me by 70 pounds encountering two bobcats while on an evening walk around the block was a recipe for disaster in which I was the loser. I cannot even begin to thank the most wonderful people who came out of their warm homes to help me on a very wet, cold night. Someone called the ambulance, a fabulous couple took the dogs back to my son’s house and notified him of my predicament, blankets appeared to cover me, pillows under my head, umbrellas over me to keep me dry, and the most amazing mom who left her young children alone in their house while she held my hand and coached me to breathe until the ambulance came 22 minutes later.
Someone directed traffic around me to keep me safe, someone drove my son’s car back home so he could come with me in the ambulance, and a protective ring of concern surrounded me. What fabulous people — you cannot imagine how much I appreciated all your concern and support that night. I have tried to figure out which houses everyone came from, but I cannot and so am writing this in hopes that everyone will know who they are and how much their support to a neighbour’s mother meant that night.
A heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you who came to my aid that night. My son and daughter-in-law have indeed chosen the most amazing neighbourhood in which to raise their family — I cannot think of values more important in life than those displayed the night of May 8 on Jay Crescent.
