There are times for reflection and times for change. The outgoing mayor and council deserve credit for their efforts of reflecting and concentrating on core issues such as finances, infrastructure, land use and municipal administration following previous years characterized by hubris and breakneck-pace of sometimes questionable development approvals. Nevertheless, the fundamental issues the district faces have not changed during their time in office. I do not have to list them here; they are well known.
Retrospection and vision are two entirely different mindsets, each suited to its own time. What we need now the most is leadership with a fresh, unencumbered vision of the future, someone able to dislodge the accumulated logjam of issues and be the catalyst for moving Squamish forward. I believe Auli Parviainen has these qualities and that is why I support her to be the next mayor of Squamish.Wolfgang Wittenburg
