Seniors in Safety is the name of the presentation St. John Ambulance will hold on Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Seniors Centre. Do you know the signs of stroke or heart attack? What would you do if you were on your own and choking and, do you know if you are at risk of a fall? The presentation will include home safety, first aid skills and an introduction to the Medical Alert System with Fall Detector. The afternoon promises to be both educational and entertaining and will include handouts and a door prize as well. Please pre-register at the centre or call (604) 848-6898.

The Quest University and Squamish Public Library monthly series is always well attended and on Thursday (Feb. 7) at 6:30 p.m., Quest speaker Dr. Bob Perkins will be at the library to discuss "Just how concerned should we be about radio activity?"

An invitation is extended to residents or anyone visiting to join the Squamish Valley Quilters each month. The next meeting is planned for Wednesday (Feb. 6) at the Sandman Hotel for a social sew day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bring along your sewing project - sewing, knitting or whatever you choose to do. The Shannon Falls Retirement Home on Third Avenue is hosting a Valentine's Day Brunch on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 11:30 a.m. and the cost is $8. The menu includes soup and salad, and the entrée is grilled salmon; steamed veggies and mashed potatoes. The Sweet Adeline women's a cappella chorus is starting a new season and they are welcoming new members for the next two weeks. Join the group at Squamish Academy of Music on Second Avenue at 7 p.m. on Monday evenings. All ages and abilities are welcome.

The Acoustic Jam has its monthly gathering on Sunday (Feb. 3) from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Brackendale Art Gallery and all are welcome.

On Wednesday (Feb. 7) the Squamish Food Bank will be open for grocery distribution from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alano Club in Third Avenue.

The Garibaldi Shrine Club No. 48 in Squamish (part of the Masonic family in British Columbia) recently presented a cheque for $2,000 to the Squamish Hospital Foundation to be used for the orthopaedic program expansion at the Squamish General Hospital. A very successful Robert Burns Night and dinner sponsored by Mount Garibaldi Lodge No. 327 was held at the Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club on Jan. 26.

A film festival is planned at the Brackendale Art Gallery twice a month and on Friday (Feb. 1) at 8 p.m. it will focus on the environment.

Another Winter Farmers' Market will be held in the CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park on Sunday (Feb. 3) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A bingo night is planned at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 277 on Monday (Feb. 4) with doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The Over the Hill Hikers will meet on Tuesday (Feb. 5) at Canadian Tire at 9 a.m. for a Half/Full Nelson Loop hike. For more information, call Heather at (604) 892-9003.
