No-one can argue that fact that past industry in the Howe Sound area has caused a great deal of harm to the environment, but do we go into a future without industry as part of the plan? Do we become a community of commuters driving hours each day to work? Is it best to ship our industries to other countries?
If you are pro-industry, the perception is that you must be anti-environment. By the same token, if you are pro-environment you must be anti-industry. Environment and industry need to pull in the same direction, and in order to achieve this we need people in government who understand that industry only has a future if it is done in a manner that doesn't degrade our surrounding environment. This makes economic sense, and environmental sense.
This election I will be supporting Ron Sander for council. I feel he is someone who can help forge a responsible economic future for Squamish region.John BuchananSquamish Valley
