Save Stawamus too

Editor,

I have just been informed that there is a campaign to close Stawamus elementary school from the parents of children at Valleycliffe elementary ["Parents oppose school restructuring proposals," The Chief, June 4].

This is their reaction to the school boards proposal to either enforce the boundaries or split the Grades K to 3 and 4 to 7 between the two schools.

As a parent of two children attending Stawamus Elementary, I believe that this campaign is selfish and ill conceived.

Stawamus Elementary has many great qualities that many other schools cannot offer such as small class sizes, good community and family feel, strong parent involvement, zero tolerance of bullying and staff that genuinely care for the children that they teach.

The school is lead by a very good principal who constantly strives to maintain standards and provide a great learning environment and is well respected by all pupils and their families.

All of these are qualities that first persuaded me to send my children to Stawamus as opposed to Valleycliffe elementary in the first place, so now I have no desire to have my children be forced to move schools because one school is not willing to consider all options put forward by the school board.

Both schools should be working together to find a solution that takes into consideration all children involved not just promoting one school at the expense of the other.
