Editor,
As much as I enjoy reading the articles and letters in the Squamish Chief, I am going to discontinue reading your paper and making comments on the online version as well. Squamish has achieved the highest state possible of idiocracy and I can no longer sit and read how Squamish is being dragged down by greed and self-interests of tree huggers and elitist NIMBYists that reside in Squamish.
Nor can I stomach the fact that the opinions of outside interests/groups are held in higher regard than the people that vote in the local politicians. We have people that do not live here, nor do they pay local taxes here, dictating to the people of Squamish on how we "should" be running our town and spending our tax dollars on. Whistler is often the biggest offender... 2010 Olympics.
I moved here 11 years ago and thought I found heaven. I had finally found a place to rest my bones and try to live out my life after living in almost every major city in Canada and spending many years on the road. But now when I wake up I get the feeling of a rat getting ready to jump a drowning ship. Businesses are closing at a record pace, people have no prospects of finding a high-wage, lifelong job in Squamish unless they want to work retail for the rest of their lives making minimum wages.
Before I go:
To the students about to graduate from school: You are about to become part of the "commuter" group of Squamish. If you do have to drive to your jobs, do me a favour and drive safely.
To the youth of Squamish: You may have grown up here and gone to school here, but you will have to leave in order to get a good-paying job or career. Drive safely, come back and visit often.
To those that wanted to turn Squamish into a bedroom community: I hope you enjoy your commuter drive to work and learn to regret every minute you lose on that highway that will you never get to spend watching your family grow.
To local bike riders: the law says far right side and single file. Not middle of the road and two bikes wide. Respect the law please.
Until we meet again, Mr. Editor.
