EDITOR,Re: "(Peace)ing together the puzzle," Chief, March 2.

I would like to clarify some statements made in a recent article about Site C and electricity demand.

Site C is being proposed by B.C. Hydro to meet domestic electricity demand in British Columbia. Electricity needs in our province are forecast to increase by approximately 50 per cent over the next 20 years, due to a population increase of over a million people, as well as economic expansion in the mining and gas sectors.

B.C. Hydro's electricity system is integrated, which means it does not pinpoint a single resource, such as Site C, to a single customer or activity such as natural gas extraction. As such, all three B.C. Hydro customer groups - residential, commercial and industrial - would benefit from Site C.

Site C requires environmental certification and other regulatory permits and approvals before it can proceed to construction. In addition, the Crown has a duty to consult and, where appropriate, accommodate Aboriginal groups.
