Soccer equipment donations sought

You can help the children of Caye Caulker, in the Central American country of Belize, by donating your used soccer cleats and shin pads as your donations will bring smiles to the faces of children who are less fortunate.

The Squamish Gardeners summer social will be held at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Monday (July 18) at 6:45 p.m. This is a potluck (finger foods) event and will include a recap of the recent Garden Tour.

Another bus trip for seniors is planned for Wednesday (July 27) to the Boulevard Casino in Coquitlam. Please note, the annual bus trip to the PNE in August is cancelled this year. Call Elaine at (604) 898-5463 to book for the July trip.

A number of residents of Hilltop House celebrate birthdays this month including: Belle Gregoire, Dennis Everett, Fern Gordon, Dorothy Collier, Ernie Weiss, Erika Rogall, Stephen Rizun, Dorothy Jonat and Ruth Taylor. The gathering takes place on Wednesday (July 20) at 2 p.m.

I, along with a few friends dropped by the newly renovated Pearls 2nds on Cleveland Avenue (after reading Meagan Robertson's article this week) and it is a pleasant place to visit and browse. I met store manager Kate Harvey and she said it would be great to have more volunteers, and training is available. The store is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Howe Sound Women's Centre is the recipient of all proceeds from Pearls 2nds.

The Squamish Food Bank opens its doors on Wednesday (July 20) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for grocery distribution at the Alano Club on Third Avenue.

Summer Interpretive Walks with Dawn Green as the leader will begin this month. Anyone interested is asked to register at the Seniors Centre and the cost is $4 for members and $5 for non-members. The first walk is Monday (July 18) and you are asked to meet at the car park at Alice Lake at 9:30 a.m. for the two-hour walk. Wear sturdy shoes, and take water, a camera and look forward to a great adventure. For more information, call the centre at (604) 848-6898.

The Seniors Centre is sponsoring a Croquet Tournament in the Squamish Manor area on Thursday (July 21) at 1:15 p.m. Please register at the centre. There is carpet bowling on Mondays and Fridays, and lawn bowling on Tuesday and Thursdays.

During the summer, don't forget to drop by the Gift Shop at the Squamish General Hospital. The Women's Auxiliary (WA) has new toys, baby blankets, and belly rugs for babies. There is also a selection of B.C.-made gifts on display. The WA volunteers give of their time at the gift shop year-round.

Are you looking for great books to read this summer? The Summer Reading Club is offering special Tween programs on Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. During these programs, you will be introduced to some great books and have a chance to meet lots of kids your age! It requires weekly sign up, so please call the Library for more information at (604) 892-3110.

Thea of WOW is leading the cyclists on a lovely ride on the Richmond dikes on Monday (July 18) and everyone is to meet at the Adventure Centre before 9 a.m. to carpool to Richmond. For more information, call Shirley at (604) 898-5715.
