SPCA open house set

The Squamish SPCA is holding a garage sale, open house and barbecue next to the Dog Pound on Government Road on Saturday (May 5) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Squamish SPCA is holding a garage sale, open house and barbecue next to the Dog Pound on Government Road on Saturday (May 5) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Garage sale items (please, no books or clothing) can be dropped off at the pound on Friday (May 4) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is through community support that the shelter for cats and dogs is able to stay open. The Brackendale Babes are still raising money for the annual Relay for Life event in June. On Thursday (May 10) the team is again sponsoring the Boob Tour, a group of stand-up comedians who visit groups who are raising money for cancer. The event will be held in the Eagle Eye Theatre on Thursday (May 10) with doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 each and include the show and appetizers. The Brackendale Babes thank the community for their amazing support as more than $4,000 was raised for the Blake family at last week's garage sale.

A fun evening of singing, participating or just being at the Brackendale Art Gallery for the monthly Acoustic Jam awaits you and the next date is Sunday (May 6) from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

There is still time to take in Howe Sound Secondary School's musical Bye Bye Birdie at the Eagle Eye Theatre tonight (May 3) and through to Saturday (May 5) starting at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets at $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and children are available at Style Zone, Billie's Flower House and at the theatre.

Those who have experienced the death of a loved one are invited to participate in the Courage to Grieve Bereavement Support Group sponsored by the Squamish Hospice Society. Gatherings are held each Wednesday until June 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Squamish Hospice office at 38150 Behrner Dr. Registration is required by contacting Wendy at (604) 892-1552.

Zumba for Seniors begins at the Senior Centre on Wednesday (May 9) from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. It is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired dance class. Men on the Move has a new session beginning on Wednesday, May 15, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Dance and Stretch begins on Wednesday, May 16, at 1:30 p.m. Pilates for seniors begins on Monday, May 14. The Hilltop House Support Society will next meet on Thursday (May 10) at 9:30 a.m. when new members are welcome to attend.

The last weekend the Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital will be selling for their Spring Raffle at supermarkets will be this Friday and Saturday (May 4 and 5) at Save-On Foods. The WA thanks the community for its continued support as so far this year, $30,000 has been given to the Squamish Hospital for medical equipment. The draw for the raffle (prizes of $250, $175 and $100 cash) will be drawn at the gift shop at the hospital on Friday, May 11, at noon.

WOW, the senior women's cycling group, begins their new season on Monday (May 7) when the group will meet at 10 a.m. at Canadian Tire for a ride to downtown Squamish. The Over the Hill Hikers will meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (May 8) at Ross and Government roads for a Hut Lake hike. For more information, call Heather at (604) 892-9003.
