I was disappointed with Council's spot rezoning of a single family property on Rhum and Eigg to permit the building of a duplex. Council made this decision against the wishes of many of the neighbours and opened the door to other requests for spot rezoning.
I fail to see the benefit to the community in this rezoning. However there is a potential benefit to the developer.
Zoning should be part of longer term planning and provide clear guidelines for individual homeowners, developers and the greater community.
Allowing developers spot rezoning undermines community planning and calls into question the integrity of existing community plans.
