Spring BBQ tickets going fast

The guest speaker will be Leanne Embree, Ph.D., RPh from London Drugs pharmacy. Lunch is served from noon to 1 p.m. followed by the guest speaker. The Squamish Gardeners will meet on Monday (May 21) at 6:45 p.m. at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. The evening's speaker will be Lis Thomas of the Society for Promoting Environmental Conservatism (SPEC). Non-members are welcome to attend for a $5 drop-in fee.

The Caregivers Support Group is for those who face the many difficult jobs of caregiving for your aging loved ones alone. Just another reminder to women ages 40 to 79 that the B.C. Cancer Agency's Screening Mammography mobile service will be in Squamish from May 24 to June 7. Please call 1-800-663-9203 to book your appointment.

A limited number of tickets are available for the Squamish Seniors' Society Spring Barbecue on Friday (May 25) from 5 to 8 p.m. It is a good deal as a $10 ticket includes hamburger, salads and dessert. Alcoholic beverages will be sold separately. Pick up your tickets soon at the Senior Centre.

Lawn bowling starts at the Seniors Centre on Tuesday (May 29) and every Tuesday during the summer starting at 11 a.m. No experience is necessary, as some instruction will be provided. Consider joining this outdoor fun game, as all levels are welcome. There is room for Men on the Move exercise classes held each Wednesday from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

The Spring Raffle sponsored by the Women's Auxiliary to the Squamish General Hospital was again a great success thanks to the support of the community. The draw for the cash prizes was held at the Gift Shop at the hospital on Friday, May 11. The winners were: Ed Neil ($250), Corrino Visscher ($175) and Donna Billy ($100).

A bus trip for seniors to the River Rock Casino in Richmond is planned for Wednesday, May 30. The cut-off date is May 25. If there is enough interest, a Fraser River cruise to the town of Fort Langley and included lunch on the boat will take place on Saturday, June 9, at a cost of $125 and the last date to reserve is May 25 by calling (604) 898-5463. Elaine Ramsay has been organizing bus trips for seniors for more than 16 years, but the lack of participation in recent months has Elaine thinking it may be time to retire. Bus loads of thanks to Elaine for the planning of trips she has done over the years. Please let her know how much you have appreciated all she has done for seniors.

The monthly soup and sandwich day is Thursday (May 31) starting at noon. Please purchase tickets early and be eligible for a special draw.

Bear Aware and the Conservation Officer Service are hosting another "Living with Wildlife" presentation for the community on Wednesday (May 23) from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Adventure Centre.
