Stealth taxes far worse

Editor, I understand and deeply respect the views of our anti-HST movement. However, I also respectfully disagree. Income tax is far more evil than sales taxes.

Editor,

I understand and deeply respect the views of our anti-HST movement. However, I also respectfully disagree.

Income tax is far more evil than sales taxes. Instead of protesting $7 on $100 of groceries, why aren't we directing our energy at a tax that robs us of 30 per cent of our income before it even reaches our bank accounts?

You are going to be paying more in taxes one way or another. We want services - we have to pay for them.

HST is great because it's an in-your-face reminder of the cost of our government and services, unlike income tax which almost a third of us don't pay, and for the rest never even reaches our bank accounts.

If we're going to fight tax increases, why don't we dedicate some energy to figuring out what all this spending is buying us?

Anyway, maybe it's time those of us who benefit disproportionately from government services paid a bit back in?

Lastly the recall solution makes more sense. To fight an "unjust" tax increase, we're going to recall Liberal MLAs and do what?

Elect "different" Liberals? Or are we going to elect the tax and spend socialists of the NDP instead? Would anyone like some farce with their irony?

No matter who sits in Victoria, the deficit and debt and overspending will still be there.

Someone will be increasing our taxes. Either it will be the upfront way (HST) or the stealthy way (income tax, fees). Take your pick, B.C.
