Stop the pipeline

I am no, I was, one of the silent majority who accepted things as they were. However, the Enbridge pipeline project has motivated me to action. It has to be stopped! The inevitable disaster awaiting our pristine northern B.C. coastline is an unacceptable trade-off for the perceived long-term economic benefits.

Today, a container ship almost floundered on the north coast as it was trying to reach Prince Rupert. It lost some 30-plus containers overboard. Who knows what kind of environmental damage these containers may pose? Ask the Italians what happens when a ship's captain makes a stupid mistake. Ask yourself what the crew of the Queen of the North was doing before they hit Gill Island.

You are our Member of Parliament and we want you to tell Mr. Harper and Mr. Oliver that people like ourselves are not radicals. We are using our democratic privilege to speak out on issues that are important to the future generations of Canadians.

Please, do the right thing and oppose the Enbridge proposal as well. The whales, First Nations, Kermode bears, and perhaps your children and grandchildren will thank you.Fred and Andrea GailusSquamish
