This letter was sent to District of Squamish mayor and council and copied to The Chief for publication.
Mayor and council,Mr. Mike Esler has thrown the fat into the G@S fire, again blithely ignoring the negative social and economic impact of G@S ["GAS plan moving ahead," The Chief, Feb. 6].Namely:1. G@s is not in keeping with the SmartGrowth principles to which the District of Squamish is committed.2. G@S is proposed on Crown Land, currently the legacy of the citizens of B.C., and an important component of The Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada.3. G@S will compete directly with Whistler, Squamish and Furry Creek for tourism dollars, creating more of the same jobs that are currently facing layoffs in Whistler, including long-term employees who make their homes throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor.I urge you to make the G@S question a priority. G@S has already demanded enough of our time, energy and stomach for rhetoric.
