EDITOR,

Re. "Weston signs vandalized," Pique News Magazine, April 14:

I'd like to reassure Mr Weston that in all probability, the destruction of his signs had nothing to do with him, nice guy that he is. We all know that no matter what Mr. Weston has initiated on behalf of his constituents, it first must pass vetting, tweaking, and rubber stamping by the Prime Minister's office and his theo-con hired hands - and woe be you if you stray from their playbook, borrowed as it is from their loony friends south of the border. You don't want to wind up like Helena Geurgis, do you? Everyone knows by now that a vote for you is actually a vote for Stephen Harper and his cadre of Fraser Institute acolytes.

I'm afraid the multitude of sign vandalisms is purely a result of democracy stifled. You see, Mr. Weston, democracy cannot really exist with a disengaged and misinformed electorate, your constant stream of propaganda notwithstanding. I personally don't approve of vandalism, but considering how the Middle East is dealing with its stock of tyrants and autocrats, I don't think you should be too surprised at a few busted signs. If you or anyone else is scratching their heads and wondering what I am talking about, I'd suggest you check out www.shitharperdid.ca. These guys are comedians but like John Stewart, they are pretty much bang on the money when it comes to summing up the Harper Autocracy and his Republican - er, I mean Conservative ideology.

Anyway Mr. Weston, if you were ever thinking of jumping ship, this is a good time. It may not go over too well with the Big Money crowd, but you would score major brownie points with the rest of us and it would certainly be a good ethical move. I doubt as well that you would have to run around fixing as many signs.

Personally, I will vote for the person most likely to unseat Mr. Weston, and I don't mean that as a personal slight toward you, Mr. Weston. I would take Iggy over Harper any day. Remember George Bush? He hated Chrétien and Martin (the budget surplus days, you may recall), but he sure liked Stephen Harper (hello budget deficit!).

Get out and vote strategic, everyone!Bruce Kay
