Super eats at pancake breakfast

Plan on attending the Super Bowl Family Pancake Breakfast at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 on Sunday (Feb. 5) from 8 to 11 a.m. The regular breakfast is $5 each and the hungry man breakfast is $7 each and it includes pancakes, eggs, ham, sausages and coffee or juice.

The monthly Acoustic Jam session takes place at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Sunday (Feb. 5) from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Rita Kyle and her core group of musicians will give a warm welcome to everyone who attends.

A garage and rummage sale will be held in Trinity Hall, Squamish United Church on Fourth Avenue on Saturday (Feb. 4) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A good selection of clothing for all members of the family as well as some great garage sale items (no furniture) will be available.

An interesting theme Just How Sweet is Your Sweet Tooth will be explored by chemist Bob Perkins at the Squamish Public Library on Thursday (Feb. 9) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Perkins is the next guest speaker in the Quest University and Squamish Library speaker series.

The Squamish Gardeners are pleased to have Brian Minter of Minter Gardens come back to our community on Monday, Feb. 20, at the Howe Sound Secondary School at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and available at Billie's Flower House, Anna's Attic, the Adventure Centre and at the door.

The Healthy Brain Group for Older Adults will meet on Tuesday (Feb. 7) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Squamish Mental Health office at 38075 Second Ave. The program provides a place for individuals to learn as well as share their stories and support each other with their challenges and successes. On Wednesday (Feb. 8) representatives from Siemens Accoustica Hearing will be at the Seniors Centre to give a presentation on hearing aid technology. The event begins at 11 a.m. and a light lunch will be provided followed by a limited amount of hearing/speech screening tests. This session is free for members and you are asked to sign-up by Monday (Feb. 6). An Investment Club meeting will be held at the centre on Thursday (Feb. 9) at 10:45 a.m.

A Valentine's Day Eggs Benedict Breakfast hosted by the Seniors Centre Society will be held at the centre on Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. The cost is $7 for one egg, hash browns, orange juice and coffee, and $10 for two eggs. Purchase tickets at the front office.

Hilltop House (HTH) is organizing small reminiscing groups and there is a request from the staff for a variety of old calendars with lovely photos of Squamish, flowers, cars, babies, lakes and rivers or whatever you think might be enjoyed by residents. Please drop them off at the Activity Room at HTH.

They are known the world over and The Celtic Tenors are coming to West Vancouver on March 28 at the Kay Meek Centre at 8 p.m. A bus trip for seniors is being organized and the cutoff date is Wednesday, Feb. 15. To book your tickets, Please call Elaine at (604) 898-5463.

Vivian Downing often goes to Tim Hortons for coffee with friends but she was totally surprised on January 27 when many more friends showed up to wish her a happy 80th birthday complete with a special cake. Vivian thanks everyone for their kindness.

The Hilltop House Support Society will meet in the activity room at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday (Feb. 9). There is always room for more members.

For anyone suffering the loss of a loved one, there is still an opportunity for you to participate in the Courage to Grieve Bereavement Support Group sponsored by the Squamish Hospice Society.
