When I think of volunteer firefighters I think guys with other jobs as well. Sixty guys with loads of experience from their daily jobs, guys that work with financial questions, money situations, budgets and problem solving in all areas.
Such a shame that council didn't lay the budget cutting problem out on the table from the beginning to get input for suggestions and recommendations from all these guys with their endless resources.
On top of the fact that they work daily in other areas they are passionate about being volunteer firefighters. Just think of the possibilities that could have emerged.
Even with a pressed time schedule, union staff comes in the door at the last minute with good recommendations, but none are usable in the least way. Is it because council does not want to lose face at this point?
Now all this good energy that these men have will be used going door-to-door as a last resort. People, back these guys up when they come, think of it as getting back your extended fire insurance.
Council, one should cut back on luxury items when times get tough, never on your insurance, you personally might need it one day too.
Keep up the good work the full-timers as well as the volunteers. I know you are passionate and dedicated in what you do.
